A popular workshop for school classes is the 'Book Workshop'. Participating students
are guided as they write and illustrate their own short story or picture book. From this, they create a beautiful hardcover, hand-bound book.The project engages students on a number of levels:
learning to develop story writing skills;
students are challenged to think
about sequential images for their story;
learning practical, basic
bookbinding skills.
At the conclusion of the project, each child has
their own illustrated story, bound as a beautiful hard cover book. The workshops are usually conducted over two sessions,
often with a week in between. The imagination and dedication that children
bring to the workshop is often a surprise even to teachers who have
taught them for some time! The students' pride and delight in seeing
their own story as a "proper" hardcover book is such clear
testimony to the success of our workshops. If your school is interested in offering this unique
workshop to your students, please contact me for further details. All equipment and materials for the
book pages and cover will be supplied and are included in the workshop cost. Students need only to have their own materials
for writing the story, and for drawing their illustrations.
